Background
Villager FC was founded in 1876 to serve the greater southern suburbs community of Cape Town. Anyone in our Village is a Villager.
The club has a proud tradition of excellence and has produced more Springbok players than any other open club. Legends such as World Cup winners Joel Stransky, Percy Montgomery, and Garry Pagel, along with Errol Tobias, the first black Springbok, and many other legends like Morné du Plessis, HO de Villiers, John Gainsford, Dave Stewart, and Doug Hopwood and many, many more.
As Doc Craven once said:
“Villagers will always typify what is best in rugby football… a club that has attracted the type of chap who understands the meaning of playing the game.”
Today, the club continues to live by the values it was founded on: competitiveness, character, community, and commitment to growing the game for all. It remains a home away from home and a place where rugby traditions thrive.
Our home ground, Brookside, features two fields with stunning views of Table Mountain. The main field meets international standards and regularly hosts Western Province, the Stormers, and visiting 15s and 7s teams. Villager FC also hosts the Dias Tavern restaurant, a squash and running club, gym, and other sport facilities.
Through our partnership with the ATLAS Foundation and the Dominican School for the Deaf, we provide coaching and opportunities to young boys and girls—using rugby as a tool for inclusion, growth, and unity.
Villager FC is open to all.
