Western Province Rugby, affectionately known as WP Rugby, is one of South Africa’s most historic and respected rugby unions. Established in 1883, the union has played a vital role in shaping the game both provincially and nationally. As custodians of the DHL Stormers and Western Province teams, WP Rugby continues to champion excellence, community development, and a proud sporting legacy across the Western Cape. 

 

Beyond the try lines and tackles, WP Rugby is deeply invested in the communities it serves. Through Club Rugby, youth development programmes, school outreach, women’s rugby, and grassroots tournaments, the union continues to nurture talent and foster a love for the game among South Africans from all walks of life. WP Rugby proudly supports a robust rugby ecosystem that includes 95 registered clubs, registered affiliates 198 high schools, 188 registered primary schools, and 19 women’s teams. The union also oversees a panel of 260 active referees who help uphold the standard and spirit of the game across all levels.
