Stellenbosch RFC was founded in 1875. The club has been closley associated with Stellenbosch University since the establishment of a tertiary institution in Stellenbosch (first Victorian College in 1874 and then, after being granted University status in 1918 - Stellenbosch University). Celebrating it's 150th anniversary this year, the club has a long and rich rugby history and has produced 187 Springboks - the most recent being Neethling Fouche who made his Springbok debut on Saturday, 19 July 2025 vs Georgia. The club competes annually in the FNB Varsity Cup competition - with teams in the Men's Women's and Young Guns competition - in the University Sport South Africa (USSA) 15s and 7s competitions and the WP Club Rugby Super League A competition. Stellenbosch RFC also has an internal competition at the University (Campus Rugby) with 27 teams from the University communities that participate.
