Background

St George's Rugby Football Club was established in 1941 in Halfway Strand by Messrs P.G. Rhoda, J. Josephs, and A. Hassiem. For over 80 years, the club has been the heartbeat of rugby in Strand, embodying the spirit of community, excellence, and transformation.
In 1959, when Halfway was declared an industrial area, the community was divided and the club relocated to Rusthof, Strand, where we steadily rebuilt ourselves. Today, St George's RFC is affiliated with the Western Province Rugby Football Union and competes with distinction in WP Club Rugby.
The club maintains strong relations with local communities, schools, churches, and non-governmental organizations throughout the Helderberg region. We are proud to be a registered Non-Profit Organization (NPO 308-768), committed to combating social problems through rugby development and community outreach.
With 150+ active players, 15,000+ Facebook followers (the largest rugby following in Helderberg), and approximately 2,000 spectators per home game, St George's RFC continues to grow as both a competitive rugby institution and vital community pillar. In 2025, we established our women's rugby team, which won the Score WP Club Rugby Sevens Trophy, and in 2026 we launch our junior rugby programme promoting child participation and safety.
