Sir Lowrians Rugby Football Club was established in 1976 through the merger of Rangers RFC and St Matthews RFC. Since its formation, the club has grown into a strong, community-focused organisation that serves as a central hub for rugby in the Sir Lowry’s Pass area. Sir Lowrians RFC has consistently played an important role in local rugby development, providing opportunities for players across various age groups, from juniors through to senior rugby.
Over the years, Sir Lowrians RFC has built a respected rugby brand that has attracted high-profile players to the club at senior level. Former Springbok and provincial players such as Bolla Conradie, Quinton Davids, Earl Rose, Wayne Julies, Burton Claasen, and Sidney Tobias were drawn to the Sir Lowrians identity, values, and competitive environment, strengthening the club both on and off the field.
This strong culture translated into notable on-field success, including promotion to Super League A in 2015, and a landmark friendly match against the DHL Western Province Vodacom Cup XV, coached by John Dobson, at Sir Lowry’s Pass in February 2015. In 2015, the club also reached a significant milestone by finishing as the top-ranked team in the Helderberg region. In 2026, Sir Lowrians RFC proudly celebrates 50 years of continuous rugby development, reflecting a rich legacy built on community involvement, player development, and a passion for the game.
