Peninsula Rugby Football Club has a proud and rich history spanning more than 50 years. The club’s roots trace back to the early 1950s when two community teams – Kalk Bay Marines RFC and Excelsior RFC – provided rugby opportunities to local fishermen and families. In 1976, during the apartheid era, these two clubs united to form Peninsula RFC, symbolizing strength and unity in Kalk Bay.

Initially, Peninsula played at Allenby Drive alongside Retreat RFC. Later, when False Bay RFC moved to their Constantia facility, Peninsula worked with the City of Cape Town to secure the Zandvlei Sports Grounds in Muizenberg, which has been our home ever since.

Peninsula RFC has always been more than just a rugby club. It is a beacon of hope for youth from disadvantaged communities such as Retreat, Lavender Hill, Steenberg, Vrygrond, Capricorn, Seawind, and Kalk Bay. In areas often plagued by crime, drugs, and poverty, the club provides not only sport but also life skills, discipline, and a sense of belonging.

Over the decades, Peninsula RFC has nurtured generations of players, instilling values of resilience, teamwork, and community pride. One of our notable achievements was qualifying for the Top 09 in 2019, a milestone that highlighted the club’s competitive spirit and commitment to excellence. Many other achievements are recorded in our archives, which we are working to access and preserve.
