Established in Muizenberg in 1929. First home fields at Sandvlei.

A proud working man’s club where everyone is welcome.

In the early decades, the Bay battled for senior status, gaining that, only to be denied in a heartbreaking vote.

After visits to Liesbeeck Park, Wynberg and Plumstead, False Bay found their home at the Constantia Sports Centre in 1971.

Won the Grand Challenge with Basi Bey as Coach and Butch Watson-Smith as Captain in 1972.

False Bay maintained their spot in the topflight for decades to come and their next highlight was a golden period under Nick Mallett, who launched his illustrious SA coaching career upon returning from France. He coached in 1994 and 1995 before the sport turned professional.

A yo-yo period followed as False Bay navigated the now choppy waters of club rugby, which had suffered as a result of the game turning professional.

It fell to its lowest ebb when relegated to the (effectively) Third League (SLC) in 2003.

A rapid recovery, the combined effort of on and off the pitch focus saw the Bay immediately return to SLB under Brendon Fogarty and then win the SLB and move on to a third place finish in the SLA under Kevin Musikanth.

False Bay’s success continued with the uncovering a a coaching talent par excellence in Johnno van der Walt.

Under van der Walt, the Bay won the SLA twice and the Gold Cup once.

He set the gold standard for coaches across the competition to aspire to.

The success of False Bay is not measured in the silverware brought home by its flagship team. It is measured by the number of teams it fields in the various leagues; the contentment and spirit between its players and the environment created for all to enjoy, be it members or visitors alike.

False Bay’s Women’s Team is an integral part of the club dynamic and adds value on and off the pitch.
