Achievements
Background
Collegians RFC originated under the auspices of Rosendales RFC in an area, which was known as District Six in Cape Town during the 1950s. The area
was declared a “Whites Only” area by the Apartheid Nationalist Government in 1966, which meant that all of its inhabitants, comprising different races and
cultures, were forcibly removed to other areas across Cape Town, mostly to the Cape Flats, incorporating areas such as Athlone, Bonteheuwel, Mithells Plain and Langa. Following a brief, failed merger with Silvertree RFC, the club established itself as Collegians RFC in 1976, and operated from its main base in Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain.
During the 1980s, in particular, playing under the banner of the South African Council of Sport (SACOS) and the South African Rugby Union (SARU), the club flourished as a powerhouse of Western Province Rugby Union (WPRU),
with a number of its players achieving provincial and national honours. Since
unification of all South African rugby associations in 1992, the club has played at the highest level in club rugby, namely Super League A, where it managed to remain for seven years, and has since been playing in Super League B, albeit with a number of other formidable clubs, while it continues to produce provincial players at different age groups.
