About Us

Proudly representing the Western Cape since 1883, WP Rugby is one of South Africa’s most historic rugby unions. With 95 clubs, 198 high schools, 170 primary schools, and 19 women’s teams, we’re committed to excellence on the field and development off it. From grassroots to the professional arena, WP Rugby continues to inspire, unite, and grow the game across all levels.

Statement from the President

At WP Rugby, our purpose extends well beyond results on the field. We are stewards of a proud legacy shaped by generations of excellence, resilience, and community spirit. As President, I am honoured to lead an organisation that not only competes at the highest level but remains firmly committed to development, transformation, and inclusivity across the game.

From our elite teams to our grassroots structures, we believe in building rugby from the ground up. Club Rugby is the heartbeat of our ecosystem — nurturing young talent, empowering coaches and volunteers, and creating clear pathways for progression at every stage of the journey.

President, WP Rugby

Our responsibility is to provide leadership, structure, and meaningful support throughout the rugby landscape. Whether through school programmes, referee development, women’s rugby initiatives, or competitive platforms, we are focused on building a system that is accessible, sustainable, and truly reflects the Western Cape.

WP Rugby is more than a union. It is a collective movement rooted in pride, opportunity, and hope. Together with our partners, players, and loyal supporters, we will continue to grow the game we love and protect a future as strong and inspiring as its rich history.
